How To Select An Infant Stroller

You will need to begin gaining the important things your baby will need, now that you got the news that you are expecting a bundle of joy. You may feel overwhelmed if this is your first baby with all the decisions that need to be made.

Deciding on the type of baby stroller you will use for your baby is one of the biggest decisions you will need to make. You need to determine your financial needs first before you begin choosing from among the many different types of strollers. The cost of strollers can range from $10 to $400 and higher.

The lower end strollers are typically the lightweight umbrella strollers. Easy folding and storage give these strollers an advantage. High prices for a stroller could indicate greater quality and better features. You should know which of the variety of features that come with strollers is significant to you?

Which would you want a convertible travel system or a stroller and a car seat? A travel system has a stay in the car base, a graco snugrider stroller frame to which the infant carrier/ car safety seat is attached. These are awesome especially for your newborn baby.

A play tray that has places for a bottle or juice cup come with strollers. Many strollers come with canopies that have vinyl windows to let you keep an eye on the baby. Easily applied foot brakes that are attached to both rear wheels and a wrist strap brake that can be used together are included on most strollers.

While you have the strap on it gives you extra safety while you are stopped because the stroller can’t roll away. Strollers are now arriving with a parent tray that fits over the handle bar as well as a large storage basket that fits under the seat(s). It has a holder for a cup of coffee or a soda, your cell phone, snack, and your keys.

Reversible handlebars that can be moved from front to rear or vice versa and are height adjustable are now on the majority of strollers. The reversible handlebars can help you to see your baby while he rides if necessary and the height adjustable feature is a great back saver.

Next to be considered is the seat. Will the seat recline enough, if it reclines, to allow your newborn to lie almost flat? Will the seat be comfortable for your baby and well padded? Can the seat padding be removed so it can be washed? Blankets that can be attached with snaps to the seat come on most upper end strollers

Your baby’s stroller becomes like a bunting on wheels with these blankets. Your baby is shielded from wind and harsh sunlight with the use of these detachable rain hoods. Another twist comes with your decision about a baby stroller. You can have for free a stroller that is almost brand new from your friend. She promises to get the stroller ready for you and cleaned.

Is it a safe choice for your baby to have a used stroller? Before you place your baby in it you will need to look over some things and it could be a very good choice for you and your baby. No gaps, dents, or cracks should be found in the frame. Bolts and screws must all be in place.

If it were anything less your baby could be seriously hurt in an accident. Are there any sharp spots on the frame? Can your baby be cut by screws sticking out or are there loose screws? Is the frame and handle bar properly joined?

Do you need to look over the wheels for leaks in air pressure or are they solid?

The wheels; are they worn?

Do the wheels need replacement?

Are the wheels turning appropriately?

Are the axels crooked?

Are the brakes holding when applied and working properly?

No matter if the seat is in straight us position or reclining position, does the seat hold?

Your baby could be seriously hurt if the seat does not hold the position well. Is the seat lining fitting the frame properly and is it clean? Strollers have a variety of options, types, and styles. Multi-seated strollers are available for two children or more.

There is a variety of seating arrangements including tandem and side by seating as well as stadium seating which a variation of tandem seating where the rear seat is higher than the front facilitating the second child to see more than just the back of a head.

Jogging strollers have a triangular wheelbase with one large one out in front and two in the rear. Jogging strollers also come with a wide range of seating. Used or new enjoy your outings with your baby or children.

Baby Prams2 Pram Strollers a Different Kind of Pram
Pram strollers are very popular strollers for babies and growing children. When shopping for prams, parents are often confused as to what is a pram. The root of this confusion is because the term “pram” has been used to describe multiple styles by multiple stroller manufacturers. So, let’s clear up some of the confusion.

The term pram is short for perambulator and is still widely used in the UK. However, in the US, pram is a lesser used name that has traditionally been associated with the type of stroller commonly referred to as baby buggy or carriage. Though in recent years, the term has also been associated with non-carriage stroller styles, leading to much confusion for many parents.

To help clarify, it is probably best to consider prams as falling into one of two styles: traditional baby prams or modern pram strollers. There are a few differences with these two styles of prams.

The traditional baby prams are similar to a baby bassinet with a canopy to protect the baby from direct sunlight and from other elements. This is a baby carriage that is most reflective of the Victorian era styles. These types of strollers are not for older children and are usually limited to smaller infants and babies. Although some models of these strollers are advertised as being acceptable for children up to 30 pounds, this can be impractical for some parents. As children begin to grow they can crawl out of a traditional carriage-style pram and are often better suited for pram strollers or seated-position strollers.

The modern pram strollers are essentially the best option if you want a product which can grow with your infant into toddlerhood. Pram strollers provide for a bassinet-like bed for a baby to sleep in where the baby can lay completely flat. These strollers can also be converted to inclined or seated positions as the baby gets old enough to sit up. The seated position is safe for the baby as he or she can be strapped into the sitting position and will not be able to crawl out of the stroller.

There are things to think about when you look at pram strollers if you are having difficultly choosing between the traditional and modern styles:

• The traditional baby pram style often provides the most comfort for your baby as possible. However, they are can become less safe for larger, mobile babies that have the ability to crawl and climb because they can fall over the side.

• The modern pram stroller style is designed to balance comfort with the safety needs for older children. This allows for pram strollers to be a viable stroller for child from infancy through toddler ages.

Pram strollers are excellent full size strollers for newborns and babies so they can lay flat. As a baby grows they can enjoy a modern-stroller ride and sit up in them. If you purchase a traditional pram you will need to buy another stroller as the baby grows. The modern pram strollers have the capability to grow with your baby.

Baby Prams1 A Guide to Single Baby Prams and Strollers
Single strollers are the most common models out there and they are designed for only one child. You will find a vast selection of them which means you can get your hands on exactly the type you need. It may surprise you to find just how many different versions of single strollers there are. Taking the time to explore them will help you to purchase the one that is right for you.

Stroller with Carrier

Most parents will agree that a versatile stroller is a good investment. This type allows you to put your baby in there from the time they are an infant until they are a several years old. They are adjustable so you can have a child in there laying down or sitting upright. A great model is one that has a carrier with it. This attaches safely to the top of the stroller. Carrying around a heavy car seat carrier with a baby can be difficult but this allows you to have them safely in front of you.

As the child gets older you can use the bottom part of the stroller for them to ride in. A stroller with a carrier is very convenient as you can take your baby out of a vehicle and attach them to the stroller. You don’t have to take them out of their carrier which can make them cranky. They will also be securely harness this way so you can be confident they are safe.

All Terrain Stroller

If your lifestyle includes being out in areas where the terrain isn’t even, you won’t be satisfied with a basic single stroller. Instead you need to buy one that is designed for all terrain. They are styled differently with two wide wheels on the back and one in the center of the front. These are also referred to as jogging strollers. While they are more expensive, being able to go where you want with your child easily is well worth such an investment.

Umbrella Stroller

An umbrella stroller is one that goes by many different names. It gets this particular name due to the fact that you can easily open and close it like an umbrella. They are extremely lightweight too. You can set it up in a matter of seconds and do the same to fold it up. This is perfect for traveling and to keep in your car for basic outings.

With an umbrella stroller though you don’t get very much room. They are upright strollers so you child will have a hard time sleeping in one. They aren’t good for small children either that can’t sit up on their own. You also have to make sure you have the latch securely in place when your child is in it. Otherwise you risk it collapsing with them inside.

Before you buy any type of single stroller, test them out. Most retailers offer them on display. Take the time to examine how they look, how they are moved, and even how heavy they are. You also want to read safety information about them online. Once you have narrowed down your selection you can compare prices and features to get the one that is best for your family.

Baby Strollers6 Helpful Hints in Buying Baby Strollers
The thought of buying baby stroller toys can be extremely exciting, especially once you hit the sores that are filled with cute looking things that your baby would love to play with. Not only do they amuse the babies, a good selection of toys can also help sharpen the baby’s mind, and can train his or her mind to work smarter. Nice baby stroller toys also make for great room accessories when they are put in open shelves or simply as they are left lying around on the baby’s room floor. To make sure that you buy the best possible baby stroller toys keep the following in mind:

1. Soft- Toys with a soft surface, having a smooth finish, are what you should watch out for. Make sure there are no rough edges around or on the toys that can hurt the baby’s skin. It is generally suggested that even after you have bought the toys, you keep checking them regularly if they have the potential to develop, out of wear and tear, rough edges.

2. Large- You should select reasonably large toys, with large sub parts. This ensures that even if your baby takes the toy in his or her mouth, he is not able to swallow it down. However, do not opt for toys that are so large, which the baby cannot even take under his or her grip. Also, in spite of being large they should be as light weighted as possible, so that the bay can hold it up easily.

3. Strong-The baby stroller toy should be manufactured very well, so that the parts do not keep coming off. Chances that the baby would try to damage it are quite high, they might throw them away, kick the toys or simply try to pull its parts apart. Therefore the stronger and the more tough to break the toy, the better.

4. Washable- The toys should be easy to clean, and preferably also be such that they do not attract too much dirt and dust. The baby would tend to take the stroller toys in his or her mouth over and over again, and there is not much you can do about it. The best way to make sure that it does as little harm to the kid’s health as possible is by keeping it clean. Washable toys that do not get dirty easily are surely very important.

5. Fun without being risky- A baby stroller toy which is not fun is no use for the baby. Get toys in bright colors that look attractive. Toys that make sound, and are capable of keeping the baby occupied, are things that can really delight them. Do not go for complicated toys for the baby, since they are too small to understand them. The best toys are those that are simple to understand, such as toys that the baby can play with by juggling with it. Also the toy should not be risky. For example a long colorful rope might look amusing but does not make a good toy, since it might entangle the baby.

Keep these basic precautions in mind and buy safe toys!

Baby Prams8 South African entrepreneurs launch baby hire service
(July 2006, Cape Town, South Africa) – Three South African entrepreneurs have launched a service that takes the hassle out of travelling with babies. Parents can now hire their baby’s equipment online from www.babylite.co.za and will find it waiting for them on their arrival in various destinations in South

Africa.

This eliminates the bother of having to fly with a bulky, heavy pram and a large bag filled with bottles, sterilizers, nappies, cots, etc. Parents can order their baby’s necessities from the site before getting on the plane, drastically reducing the amount of luggage they need to take on a trip.

The site also sells a Babylite Welcome Pack that includes all the essentials they need for when they get to their destination.

“The Babylite Welcome Pack takes the chore out of arriving at your destination. No more driving around looking for your nearest supermarket or baby store, everything is right there when you arrive,” said Gareth Davies, the site’s founder and director of Babylite. “The Babylite site doesn’t

just provide a baby accessory hire service. It also includes many links of interest to people visiting South Africa such as where to stay and what to do.”

The service is not just for those flying into South Africa from abroad, but for South Africans travelling domestically who want to make their trip less of a mission than it has to be.

Davies, an ex-print production manager, started the company after many of his friends complained about all the stuff they had to carry round with them. “Seeing the amount of equipment a new parent has to deal with was frightening: prams, cots, car seats, walkers etc… as if they didn’t

have enough to focus on without this added hassle.”

Although Davies himself doesn’t have children, his business partners Simon Lait, (who runs the Johannesburg branch) and Craig Hale (who runs the London branch) have three between them.

“Travelling has become more difficult in recent years. Between security concerns and newly enforced baggage restrictions, bringing all the baby supplies you will need while away from home just doesn’t make sense” says Simon Lait, co-founder of Babylite. He loved the idea when it was pitched to him by Davies who had just returned from a 5-year stint in London. “It just made sense to me” he said “and as a parent myself it is a service I would definitely use too”.

Craig Hale, Babylites UK director, recounts his first travel experience with his two kids:

“With eight pieces of luggage between us, prams and car seats, and two small children to handle, the trip was a baggage nightmare” he said. “Three pieces of our luggage alone consisted of baby supplies – nappies, baby wipes, formula, bottles, food, bathing supplies, and countless other items”.

On their next trip, the Hale family left the baby supplies behind only to be met with exorbitant prices at the local store that did not stock the brands their kids were used to using or many of the things they needed. “If only Babylite had been around then” Craig said, “our holiday would have been much more pleasant! Once I heard of Gareth’s idea to start a baby accessory hire company I was in!”

Only a few weeks old, Babylite has already garnered praise from many visitors to the site. “I think the simple layout is really attractive to first time visitors, as well as the excellent service we are offering them” Davies said smiling “but then that was my plan all along”.

The ideal time to order is two weeks before departure (though they can deliver last-minute) so a little advance planning is necessary. But, let’s face it, most of us have been planning ahead since the day we saw two lines on the early pregnancy test.

Baby Strollers4 The Best Baby Stroller What to Buy in the Stroller Jungle
When you’re about to buy a stroller for the first time, you feel like you’ve entered the world of rocket science: carrycot or seat; or both, foldable, aluminium, plastic; three wheeled or four wheeled; how the heck are you supposed to find out how to get a high quality, practical, safe and good looking stroller for your little one?

We took a good look around, talked to people who once where just as confused as us some time ago, and a brand that kept coming up was the Bugaboo Stroller. Yes, we’ve seen it in the tabloids, used by celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Gwen Stephani, but what’s the little frog like stroller really about?

This is the stroller for the active parent, and yes, the parents using it swear by it. In the city, on the beach, in the woods, you will be able to use the Bugaboo everywhere. To find out ourselves we tried, and; yes, it can surely live up to it’s rumour. We took it on the subway through the city in a horrible rush hour, and later on to the beach. It was peace of cake; especially the beach part impressed, we didn’t struggle hard to move it around in the sand a all. It could easily be manoeuvred just about everywhere, since it’s light weight and the swivel like wheel makes it really easy to turn and walk with in any environment. Another feature we really liked was that you could move the seat or carrycot vertically; this means that you can set the seat in table-high position; very good if you are outside and want to sit down to feed or communicate with your baby. Or your toddler can participate sitting with you at the table in a cafe or restaurant.

The handle bar is adjustable, so when grandma or daddy is going for a walk with the baby they can adjust it to their own comfortable height. The seat and bassinet is reversible, so when the baby grows and wants to look around instead of facing you, it’s easy to turn around in one grip.

Some other features:

- The Carrycot is approved for use for overnight sleeping, good if you are on a trip.

- The Pushchair seat can be used as a seat on the floor or the ground as well.

-The under seat bag is big; good for shopping or storage.

-When the stroller is folded it takes up minimum space, it fits easily even in the smallest car.

-The seat frame is 2 inches longer so will fit for a longer baby and taller child.

So is this really the Rolls Royce of stroller some claim it to be? Yes, we really think it is. Is there a downside to it? Yes, the price. Takes a while to digest, but if we look upon it as the investment it really is, the price (about 900 $) is something to consider, because you won’t have to swap it for another on as the baby grows, it will grow with your child for as long as you need a stroller. And you will have a stroller for all of your kids, if there’s more to come!

Baby Prams Baby Prams Contemporary Style From History
The welcoming of a new baby to the family brings on many new decisions. How to best provide for your little angel so that everyone is happy – including your baby – is always a challenge. You want to provide the best of everything, including food, clothing, environment, and of course baby equipment. Though a briefly forgotten part of our history, traditional-style baby prams are once again becoming popular.

Baby prams, shortened from perambulator, date back to the Victorian Era in the United Kingdom, when originally offered as a gift to Queen Victoria. Prams have features which provide much comfort for you baby. The flat bottomed, carriage-style pram provides a traditional alternative to baby strollers or pushchairs (British name for strollers). With many new details such as improvements to suspension for added comfort and noise reduction, baby prams, once very common in affluent families, are now popular worldwide among all lifestyles and tastes.

One of the most difficult decisions new parents make is choosing the baby pram or stroller which is best for them. Safety and comfort always top the list of requirements, closely followed by design and fashion. But why chose baby prams over all other styles of baby transport? One reason is that prams are designed to have babies face the person pushing the carriage. This helps reduce any wind to the baby’s face and promotes additional eye contact which is highly recommended during your infants first months. And don’t forget you are able to adore your new bundle at the same time! Another reason is baby prams are designed for stability and a smooth ride. Wide wheels help keep the pram from tipping, and the advent of ‘four-wheel drive’ helps improve steering and maneuverability. Another innovative design improvement includes two separate sets of wheels. One set of wheels is the larger, all-terrain style for smooth ride and stability, and the other being the swivel style to allow ease of steering. Most prams have excellent storage capacity under the bassinet to allow you to carry all of baby’s necessities – as well as some of your own. And of course the fully reclined seating area allows your little one to have restful sleep. When you are stopped for a rest the wheel locks help keep the pram stationary, and of course a safety harness helps keep baby safely inside the bassinet.

You can find much variety not only at the closest infant or baby shop near your home, but also in the convenience of online shopping on your computer. Once you have finally chosen your style of baby pram and made your purchase, make sure you have no missing or damaged parts and there are no worn areas in the fabric. Most of the newer designs provide fabrics which breathe with your child to help keep the environment inside the carriage comfortable and not overheated.

When you opt for the traditional, classic style that baby prams offer, keep in mind the rich history of the pram and the comfort it provides for your baby, as well as the convenience it provides for your and your family.

Baby Strollers1 Baby Stroller Accessories For Parenting Pleasure
There are countless baby stroller accessories to choose from when outfitting your child’s stroller for a more comfortable ride. There is everything from extra cushions, to strap covers and extra storage to toys that hang down for them to play with if the ride gets too boring. Baby stroller accessories fit most all standard size strollers, and there are also baby stroller accessories for double and triple strollers as well.

Starting at the back of the stroller, where the parents stand and push the stroller, there is a parent’s organizer, which is basically either a tray that snaps on to where the handle is or a ‘bucket’ that has Velcro straps and it hangs from the curved handle. The ‘bucket’ has two cup holders and a secret pocket for valuables and the middle is insulated for snacks or can just be used to carry keys and a cell phone.

Also in the back of the stroller are several different types of stroller accessories such as mesh bags and thin backpack style bags for carrying extra clothing or diapers or toys that don’t fit in the cargo area below. These bags usually Velcro on or slip over the handle bars or curved bar for pushing the stroller, in addition to the bags, there are large plastic hooks that snap on to the arched pushing handle that will be able to hold a diaper bag strap, purse strap, grocery bag or a coat and scarf. They come in sets of two and are great stroller accessories to add.

There are countless items that can be snapped onto the arch that is the handle that pushes the stroller. There are cup holders, an umbrella holder, a powerful light for dark nights, and an odometer for telling how far you’ve gone, especially for jogging strollers.

Inside the stroller there are a number of stroller accessories that help baby to be more comfortable such as strap covers and adjustors, quilted bumper padding or a small head holder for when she or he is trying to sleep. Lambskin covers for the entire strollers inside to help keep them comfortable and then there are mesh netting that cover the entire strollers outside so that there are no bugs getting to the babies and rain ‘hoods’ and covers to keep them dry.

Other stroller accessories include frames to convert the strollers into car seat or carrier holders so you don’t have to move the baby from the car seat over to the stroller; the car seat becomes the stroller.

There are add-on stroller accessories such as the toddler stroller step in which a toddler can stand and ‘ride’ along with the baby. This attachment goes on the back of the stroller and has two wheels to stable the child and they can hold on to the inside of the arch while the parent pushes the stroller. Along the same lines as the toddler stroller step, there is the jump seat for toddlers in which it attaches to the back of the stroller, allowing the toddler to sit behind the baby and ride along with them, basically making a single stroller into a stroller for two!

Baby Strollers5 Baby Strollers a Safe Carriage for Babies
A baby stroller or a buggy is a popular baby transport. It is generally used to carry a child of up to 3 years of age. In a stroller, the child sits in a manner that she or he does not faces the pusher. A perambulator or pram is used to carry new born babies. It has the infant lying down in it, facing the pusher. Prams were first used in the UK during the Victorian period. Later, a suspension mechanism was added to the baby carriage that made ride smooth both for the child and the parents.

A baby stroller is comparatively smaller in size and also costs less than a pram. A more compact form of buggy, called Pushchair was released in the UK during early 1980s. The carriage became an instant hit among the Britishers as it was made of a collapsible aluminum frame. A variety of strollers are also available in the markets that are used to carry twin babies or two babies of similar age.

Travel systems are the latest evolution of baby strollers. They typically consist of a chassis with a detachable carrycot or baby seat. It can be conveniently switched between a pram and a pushchair as per needs. Its baby seat allows undisturbed movement of the baby on to a car seat. It thus considerably reduces the chances of inadvertently waking up a sleeping baby while one moves her or him to a car seat. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE) has categorized car seats into five mass groups. While the Group 0 seat can carry children of up to 10 kg, the Group 1 seats can carry children weighing 9 to 18 kg.

The latest versions of baby strollers are light weight and come equipped with swivel wheels for easy maneuvering. A number of retailers in the UK also sell buggies that can be customized according to the needs of the baby and the parents. Current strollers feature a number of baby safety designs like sun rider canopies, easy step-in rear stadium style seating and drink holders.

Baby Strollers2 Baby Strollers Are You Overlooking the Most Important Factor?
Unlike the past, today’s parents are fortunate to have a much broader selection of baby strollers available to them. There are multiple styles from which to choose. Strollers are available in a multitude of colors, and with an assortment of features. Whether you have an infant or toddler, one child or several children, there is a stroller made with you in mind. With all of the choices now available, parents shopping for a baby stroller quickly fall into feature comparisons and overlook one, very important factor: their lifestyles.

Today’s active lifestyles and hectic schedules demand more variety than ever before, and stroller manufacturers have answered the call with a plethora of styles. From the styles of the turn of the century to the modern athletic trend, there are many types of baby strollers:

• traditional baby prams, similar to the bassinet style baby carriage in which you may have, at one time, felt at home;

• modern style strollers which can accommodate from infants through toddlers;

• umbrella and lightweight strollers for convenient trips to the local store;

• jogging strollers to handle the fast pace of the day’s routine run; and

• all-terrain strollers for outdoor recreation and strolling across rough terrains.

Along with each of the many baby stroller types comes a broad selection of features. From wheel size to handlebar height there are many standard features to be considered. There are also may optional, and add-on, features that need to be considered, ranging from storage and snack trays to sunroofs.

Selecting the best baby stroller can be a daunting task. Many parents jump right into the task by gathering data for many of the available baby strollers; by looking at the different styles; and by immediately comparing the long list of features. Some parents even make detailed comparison tables to evaluate the plethora of information. It is certainly necessary to perform adequate research to make the best possible purchase decision; however, most parents do not take into account their lifestyle – overlooking the one critical factor which will significantly influence their long-term satisfaction with their baby stroller.

Before you find yourself getting caught up in the details of stroller features, take the time to think about your lifestyle, your activities, your personal style, and how the stroller needs to fit to your daily activities. Be sure to ask yourself questions such as:

• Will I be using the stroller for a lot of long trips or mostly local outings about town?

• What about taking walks around the neighborhood, at the beach, or in the local park?

• Do I want to continue (or start) physical activities such as running?

• Will we be participating in outdoor recreation activities?

• Which vehicles will be used for transporting the baby stroller?

Once you address these questions for yourself, you will be able to focus in on a true apples-to-apples comparison of baby strollers and their features and will be more able to select the best match for your lifestyle and your satisfaction.
